Filestream.me service review

Filestream.me is a unique service combining secure cloud service which provides an encrypted file storage and handy Internet tools for downloading files from the most popular file sharing services and BitTorrent network.

The description above is from the Facebook page of Filestream.me. The average user might not understand all the technical mumbo-jumbo, so my review aims to highlight the benefits of using such a service, both for the average users and the advanced tech-heads.

What does Filestream.me do?

Filestream.me fetches files from the internet and stores them in your Filestream.me account, without the need to store anything locally. You can then access your files from any PC or Android device.

Since Bittorrent traffic is getting more attention these days, a service like this provides you with the security and anonimity you need when dowloading from torrent trackers. You can paste a torrent file or magnet link in Filestream.me's download window and the file will be transferred remotely into your account:

filestream0

You will be able to download from any public or private tracker without the need to install any software or expose your IP address. Total anonimity. And if you're using a private tracker and are worried about your ratio, don't be: Filestream.me seeds your files until 1:2 ratio (downloading it once and uploading it twice).

If you want to avoid Bittorrent trackers altogether, you can still get files from forums and blogs, where users post links to multi-part archives hosted by file storage/sharing services like Netload, LetitBit or DepositFiles. Unfortunately, they require payment before they allow you to download faster than 50-70 KB/s. And a 1GB file at "free" speed takes over 4 hours to finish downloading! This is where Filestream.me comes in: you pay once and get access to lots of filesharing services, depending on the type of account you sign up for.

How fast is Filestream.me?

I live in a country with fast internet speeds, but the speed of this service blew me away. I was downloading a 800MB file from NetLoad into my Gold account and it was fetched in less than 5 seconds! I barely managed to get this screen capture:

filestream1

Getting the file from Filestream.me to my computer was also very fast:

filestream2

That's 100 times faster than the speed of NetLoad in free mode. If you're getting files regurarly from filesharing services and don't want to sign up for premium accounts with all of them, Filestream has everything in one place.

Other features

Being a heavy downloader, I appreciate the small perks of the service that come in handy. You can stream video and audio files stored in your Filestream.me account without the need to download them locally. Also, each time a download completes, you get a funny email from Chiko :)

A nice touch is the 24/7 live chat customer support, a rarity these days. And they answer promptly.

Conclusions

After testing their service for a few weeks, I can easily say Filestream.me is a service for the future. With all the new legislations coming or already in place in some countries, news of lawsuits filed for the download of a few songs, internet connection throttling by ISPs etc., Filestream.me provides you with the security needed to download anonimously. Files are fetched from the internet, transferred to their servers and you download them via SSL (securely). In the eyes of your internet provider it all looks like web browsing, not downloading. That is the biggest advantage of Filestream.me, and it all comes at a low price - the Gold account costs as much as a pizza! :D

Blah, blah, blah
