Here's the steps to block the Facebook ad sidebar in the new timeline. This works for Firefox and Adblock Plus 2.0.1.
In Firefox, go to Tools -> Adblock Plus - Filter Preferences. Select Element Hiding Rules.
Then go to Add filter (top right corner) and write: facebook.com##div.ego_section
Hit Enter and enjoy ad-less Facebook
