This blog post was dedicated to a tutorial on how to remove Phoca Gallery copyright information in footer. I was wrong to post that and, after thinking about it and receiving complaints from different people, I decided to remove the article. I am sorry for the problems it may have caused and wish the producers good luck in updating the awesome Phoca Gallery with new features and keep it bug free!

why there should be an option to remove this. The copyright license help the developer with this free extensions (he make all the extensions, manuals, language packs in his free time, he spend a lot of time with answering the questions in the forum and per e-mail)

I think, the article doesn't help a lot of people build professional websites. What does help people to do great and professional websites, is Phoca Gallery. But as you know, I as developer give to all users following:
- free extensions
- free language packs
- free documentation
- free help
- free personal help via e-mail
- free help while setting up Phoca Gallery on servers, etc., etc.
Everything for free, without any restriction, under GPL licence. What you have done, is to NOT helping people, because when I see such article and such arguments, I am losing every possible motivation to produce new FREE extensions and new FREE features for Phoca Gallery...
The power of Phoca Gallery was, it grew very quickly and almost all features asked by users were implemented. But as I said, the motivation is still smaller. I am not some big company, I don't get money from web development, everything what I do in case Phoca Gallery is in my freetime. So the important for growing Phoca Gallery is only my motivation, nothing else
.
The conclusion. With such article you only damage this project but not only this. On my localhost there are more free extesions. Maybe they will never be finished :-(.
But it is your opinion and your web site, you can do everything what you want to do. You can provoke people how to violate GPL licence. But my opinion is, you don't help people (if some users think, you do, maybe they cannot think in the long them)

I wanna answer to Phoca Developer Jan post. First of all, I think that Phoca Component is great, simple and straightforward. What I dont think, is that for every GPL or MIT license we have to use the developers logo. If was right, Joomla sites would had more logos rather content.
Additionally Jen saying that you gonna quit Phoca developing coz of these posts, who cares? Someone else will fork it, dont worry about, open source won't stop coz of you
Feel free to quit, or continue. But as long as you wanna advertise something as GPL, give an option to remove that logos. We will remove it anyway, just make our life easier, and your software better.
Of course you can always do it commercial, nothing bad to that

A lot of people use GPL to develop commercial programs. the free stuff is far and few between. If you do program you know the time it takes to write the code and develop something. It is easy to copy or steal some one elses work; it is much harder to create your own. There are always two choices, wisdom and folly, in life you may want to stay away from folly, sure its easy and quick, but karma is going to get you sooner or later.
Jan has done a very good job with the program, it even works under IIS7, on a windows platform. I was happy to donate to Jan for the work that was done on the Phoca Gallery.
I donate to all of the extensions and module writers that offer free items, becasue I can test them before buying them. Most of the commercial items have to be purchased ebfore testing, and using IIS7 really doesn't help.
By the way if you donate to Jan he will send you an update to remove the logo.

it's very simple:
just modify the line in the file components/com_phocapdf/helpers/phocapdfcontenttcpdf.php
$this->writeHTMLCell(0, 0, 0, $posY, PhocaPDFHelper::getPhocaInfo(1), 0, 0, 0,true, 'R');
just remove this item by putting php's note code (//)
so the final string will be

Go to
administrator -> components -> com_phocagallery -> libraries -> phocagallery -> render -> renderinfo.php
Open the renderinfo.php file.
Replace the line return lg; to return '';

there is no 'sz' anywhere...
i try to make all the compinations of 'ed' 'md' 'sz' to both of files and nothing worked!

Jan says "without restrictions" yet he goes to great lengths to restrict people and force the display of his back-links. If you can edit the code, then you can remove the links, even if he makes it difficult.
I still think you should support him by sending a donation if you use it on a commercial site, but I don't support his attempts to force back-links.
Abivia has a redaction plugin that will fix the links; but Phoca Gallery 2.6.1 actually EDITS THE PARAMETERS to disable it. Fortunately they just put up instructions on how to work around this at http://www.abivia.net/help/forums/topic?id=7

Hi, I don't like it too :-(. The problem is, I only defend my copyrights. It was everythink OK and I have helped people to hide this links. There was a parameter to disable it.
But after I gave free extensions, free translations, free support via email and forum, the people didn't appreciate it. Nobody helped with depeloping. They attacked my sites, they written threatening emails to me and this only because I didn't find time to add some feature to the component or I didn't find time to make modifications for their sites for free (which they sold to their customers) or I didn't change the component so it will not look like Joomla! component (?).
The link is very important to the project and this is last attemt to hold the project live. People lost any ideas about values. Ok they say, if Phoca Gallery ends, there will be other similar project. But this is not 100% true. See the Joomla! sites. The components go to commercial way because it is not possible to develop such large solutions for free as hobby.
For me it is better to end the project than to be dishonoured by people who make big money with such extensions and don't return any help back (they only write threatening mails, attack my server, spam the forum and make comments on all possible sites: "what the "bad" Jan is doing there, our customers has paid us well, the don't like the links" ...
And I think, it is not difficult. For every people who help with the project, I give every possible advices include advices how to hide the link. And making some translation or answering some posts in the forum (some minutes, hours) will not take so much time like developing similar extensions (some years)

Sorry for this phocagallery creator, but I think do you are exaggerating! as someone said before, we want a good cms as it is joomla, and very good contributors, as you are, but not thousands of logos.
Phocagallery developer, if you create a logo equal to the one is used by the wonderful component "jcomments" I promise you that I'll will leave the the logo and I'm pretty sure that many more will leave it.
I completely agree with the above comments. On professional website and with the majority of our custom designs we can't have those stupid footers. We are more than happy to support projects and even pay for components when they are worth it (and most of the phoca components are, including phocagallery). However, if we have to resort to hacking we will. We can't have footer all over the place junking up the designs.
PS. The above solution did work for 2.6.2 beautifully.

I was looking for some help on light-box pop-ups in the gallery while using phoca gallery and found this page. I am not a designer or a developer however I like technology so I keep playing with it. I have very minimal knowledge in Joomla, but when I see my brother designing and developing sites I just get really inquisitive to build some on my own too. I just do it on Localhost for now.
Coming back to the topic, you will find "100s" of people saying bad things about you or your product. Like you said sending threatening mails and stuff. However at the same time, there are "1000s" of people who appreciate your creation as well.
My point is Don't lose hope and motivation just a for few hundreds of them. These people don't have any aim in life, are retarded, showing their smartness that they have found a way to alter the code. When they say that if you quit some one else will take your place, I am sure a lot of people will agree to me that when you are looking for the "right" extension (bug free) which fulfills your exact requirement, it's really hard to find sometimes.
There is a very smart thing that you can do - "Ignore Them" !
And not just saying so that you can keep creating those "Free extensions" !!

there is only 1 string in there, but the name has changed from 2.7.1

look for base64_decode
change into $tmpl['md'] = base64_decode('a');

I found most of the lines to change except:

As far as Phoca is concerned, first of all, it is not a violation of copyright to un-display an ad or link. If you were to remove copyright from the code itself, that is a violation. The GPL says I can modify it to my own liking! If you don't like the GPL, then don't use it for your software!
