Remove “Important” tags in Gmail

Open the Settings dialogue. (Click on the Gear icon at the top right of the Gmail window, then on Mail Settings on the drop-down. If you don't have a Gear icon, click on the word Setting at the right top of the Gmail screen.)

Click the Priority Inbox tab.

Find Importance Markers. Select "No markers".

Save Changes.
